George Clooney, Michelle Williams and Jean Dujardin walked away from the 69 th Annual Golden Globes as the night’s big winners. But there was an unspoken winner at the annual star-studded Hollywood event: Platinum and diamond jewelry. Silver screen stars from Natalie Portman to Reese Witherspoon donned the eye-catching combo to take their designer looks — and diamonds — to a new level of luxury. Natalie Portman shines in Harry Winston signature pieces. New mom Natalie Portman looked polished from head to toe in a set of platinum and diamond pieces from designer Harry Winston. The Black Swan star’s graceful diamond drop earrings, sleek diamond bracelets and artful diamond ring accented a hot-pink strapless dress that could have come straight from Marilyn Monroe’s closet. Angelina Jolie, left, and Kate Beckinsale paired Lorraine Schwartz diamonds with white gowns. Across the Red Carpet, actresses chose signature pieces from designer Lorraine Schwartz to amplify white gowns. Angelina Jolie paired oversized, 25 carat platinum and round diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz with her sleek white and red Atelier Versace dress to garner “Best Dressed” buzz. And Kate Beckinsale was studded with a magnificent 300 carats of diamonds, divided between her platinum and diamond mesh bowtie earrings and platinum and diamond braided cuffs. Bulgari designs also made a strong showing at the 69 th Annual Golden Globes: Stars from Jodie Foster to Clare Danes lent their star power to platinum and diamond earrings from this timeless jewelry designer. Reese Witherspoon, left, and Zooey Deschanel took platinum and diamonds to the next level with timeless vintage pieces. Reese Witherspoon and Zooey Deschanel won fashion accolades for their vintage diamond and platinum looks. Reese chose a red Zac Posen gown and wind-blown hairstyle that let her Fred Leighton estate accessories shine. Decorated with 9 carat platinum and diamond drop earrings featuring an exquisite European cut, 1900s platinum and diamond bracelets, and a stunning 1920s diamond ring, there’s no denying Reese’s vintage look awed the Red Carpet crowd. But the biggest jewelry surprise of the evening came from New Girl star Zooey Deschanel. Her 1970s nature-inspired Van Cleef and Arpels ring featured a prominent pearl surrounded by intricate diamond petals that embody 1970s vogue. Paired with a green and black silk Prada gown, her platinum, pearl and diamond Van Cleef and Arpels estate ring was a bold step back in time. If you love the look of vintage Van Cleef and Arpels pearls, this pair of vintage Diamond and South Sea Pearl Earrings is a must-have for your collection. Whether you need a powerful Red Carpet look or a classic pair of studs, we love how a platinum setting enhances the beauty of diamonds. There’s a reason why stars from Natalie Portman to Reese Witherspoon chose this brilliant look at the 69 th Annual Golden Globes. The Board of Education voted unanimously last week to use settlement money to reimburse $2.5 million to the Measure E bond fund and add another $2.5 million to the district’s basic aid reserve fund . Energy company Johnson Controls paid a total of $6.6 million to the Beverly Hills Unified School District’s general fund in November to settle claims regarding $7 million worth of goods and services the district purchased from the company at the recommendation of former facilities director Karen Christiansen. Johnson Controls had secretly hired Christiansen to be a consultant while she was working for the district. Christiansen was found guilty in November of four felony conflict of interest counts and was sentenced this month to four years and four months in prison for infractions that occurred while she was a BHUSD employee. The district has spent more than $2 million in Measure E funds on legal fees related to the months-long Christiansen trial. The $334 million Measure E bond was passed by voters in 2008 to help renovate all five BHUSD schools. The basic aid reserve now holds $3.25 million, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Alex Cherniss told the board. The fund is in place to support the district in case property taxes fluctuate and bring in less revenue than anticipated. Money in the basic aid reserve cannot be spent without approval from the board majority. The Johnson Controls settlement also includes a $1.6 million credit for goods and services from the company to be delivered at a later date. If the district doesn’t take advantage of the credit, it will receive $1 million in cash. “We will get approximately $1 million in additional funds in the next 10 months unless the board chooses to buy services [from Johnson Controls],” Cherniss said. “We will be coming back with a recommendation for another $1 million to appropriate.” Cherniss did not indicate how the additional funds might be spent.
