January 15, 2012

AZUSA, Calif. — A Southern California man has been arrested on suspicion of putting poison in his wife’s cereal. Los Angeles County jail records show 43-year-old Fernando Porras of Azusa was being held on $1 million bail Saturday on suspicion of the attempted murder of his 51-year-old wife, Fernanda. Azusa police Cpl. Randy Schmidt says the woman noticed a horrible taste and smell Thursday in her Rice Krispies. Police allege Porras put a poisonous chemical in the cereal, but they didn’t say what it was. Police Sgt. Dewayne Eldridge says the woman wasn’t believed to be seriously harmed by the substance. CP3 Outshines Kobe As Clippers Win Battle Of LA

January 15, 2012

LOS ANGELES — Chris Paul scored 33 points, Blake Griffin had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and the Los Angeles Clippers led all the way in beating the Lakers 102-94 on Saturday night despite 42 points by Kobe Bryant. Chauncey Billups added 19 points, former Laker Caron Butler had 13 points and DeAndre Jordan had 10 rebounds in the Clippers’ second win in four days over one of the NBA’s elite teams. The Clippers beat Miami 95-89 in overtime on Wednesday and have won five of their last six. Paul limped off after hitting a jumper in the final minutes. Bryant notched his fourth straight game of 40 or more points but the Lakers had their five-game winning streak snapped by their Staples Center co-tenants, who beat them twice in the preseason. The Lakers got no closer than five points early in the fourth quarter as the visiting team. Bryant broke out for 21 points in the third, but he was limited to 10 in the fourth against the Clippers’ double teams. Billups and Paul hit consecutive 3-pointers to help the Clippers extend their lead to 67-53 midway through the third. Bryant took over from there, scoring 17 of the Lakers’ final 19 points of the quarter to close to 76-72. He began and ended the spurt with 3-pointers and in between hit 7 of 8 free throws while the Clippers were held to nine points over the final 5 minutes. The Clippers’ biggest first-half lead was 55-42 at the break. They outshot and outrebounded the Lakers, who were better in the paint. The Lakers twice closed within three points in the second quarter, but the Clippers outscored them 16-6 to end the period, with Billups, Paul and Griffin combining for 14 points. The Clippers opened the game on a 13-4 run, then outscored the Lakers 13-9 to lead after the first quarter. Things got chippy in the final 12 seconds when Darius Morris went up for a basket after Paul was whistled for a foul and Griffin pushed off him with both hands as Morris came down. Lakers coach Mike Brown got incensed and was called for a technical, while nothing was called on Griffin. Morris had the last word, though, when he sank a jumper from before the half-court line at the buzzer as Paul tried to cut him off. Metta World Peace and Grififin also had technicals. Notes: Clippers F Brian Cook left midway through the second quarter with a sprained left ankle. … The Clippers improved to 5-1 at home and 6-0 this season when taking a lead into the fourth. … The Clippers have sold out all six of their home games. … The Lakers were playing their fifth game of the week and their 14th of the season, tying Chicago for most games played. … The Clippers have played just nine games, fewest in the league. … Clippers backup G Mo Williams missed the game because of an injured right foot that he hurt on Tuesday at Portland. … Lakers G Jason Kapono is adjusting to sleepless nights after his wife gave birth to premature twin girls named Campbell and Isla earlier in the week. “Thirty minutes is like three hours. It’s all been a blur,” he said. See the original post here: CP3 Outshines Kobe As Clippers Win Battle Of LA

"Hotel California" TQ

“Hotel California” is a 2012 soul-rock remake of the Eagles classic song by R&B singer and hip-hop recording artist TQ from Compton, California. With musical influences that include Mary J. Blige, Prince, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, 2Pac, NWA, Dr. Dre and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, TQ’s vocal talent shines in a daring remake of the Eagles’ megahit “Hotel California” that is absolutely superb. TQ , who was born in 1976 when the song was originally recorded, does such a fantastic job with “Hotel California” that the song sounds like it was freshly created in 2012.

Will ‘Whitey’ Bulger Sell His Story To Mark Wahlberg?

January 15, 2012

BOSTON — Mark Wahlberg says he’s considering a jailhouse meeting with James “Whitey” Bulger, but victim’s relatives are criticizing the actor’s interest in the reputed former mob boss. Bulger has reached out to Wahlberg, the actor told Boston’s WAAF-FM radio Friday, and he speculated Bulger wants to give him rights to his story. “He wants me to come down and visit him. Maybe he’ll give me the exclusive rights to tell his story, `cause he knows, you know, we can do it better than anybody else,” Wahlberg said. Wahlberg grew up in South Boston, also Bulger’s home when he ran a local gang in the `70s, `80s and `90s while working as an FBI informant. Bulger, 82, is accused of participating in 19 murders before fleeing in 1995, allegedly after his FBI handler tipped him that an indictment was coming. He was caught in California last year after 16 years on the run. Wahlberg said his “heart goes out” to loved ones of Bulger’s victims, but the story has tremendous potential. “If there’s a story to be told there, and, you know, we can do it in the way we want in the way that we best see fit, then, you know, then it’s certainly something that we would explore,” he said. Patricia Donahue, whose husband, Michael Donahue, was allegedly killed by Bulger during a hit on another man, said Saturday that’s there nothing she can do to stop someone from making a movie. But, she said, she prays the filmmakers don’t make Bulger a hero and “will portray him as he really is, the murderer that he is.” Donahue said she doubted Bulger would be honest with Wahlberg. “The government can’t get the truth out of him, nobody seems to be able to get the truth out of him, so why is he gonna to pour his heart out to Markie Wahlberg?” Donahue said. But Wahlberg’s local roots could help him sort through the lies, she added. “He has a pretty good idea of who’s who in this whole episode,” she said. Steven Davis, whose sister, Deborah Davis, was allegedly strangled by Bulger, told the Boston Herald that Bulger ruined “my whole family” and shouldn’t be glamorized. “I have a lot of respect for Mark (Wahlberg). I would hope that he would reach out to us, too,” he said. Phone messages left with Wahlberg’s representatives at Leverage Management were not immediately returned Saturday. A Massachusetts legislator, Sen. Stephen Brewer, has proposed a bill that allows only Bulger’s victims to profit from his story. Bulger is awaiting trial. A federal prosecutor said Wednesday at a status conference that he believes Bulger is trying to “manipulate the system” so he’s never brought to trial for his role in the murders. Bulger’s lawyer said the volume of evidence he has received from prosecutors is “enormous” and he and other lawyers need more time to go through it, and noted that it generally takes 18-30 months for a murder case to go to trial in Massachusetts. Another status conference in the case is scheduled for next month. Read the original: Will ‘Whitey’ Bulger Sell His Story To Mark Wahlberg?

Californians Survive Sinking Costa Concordia

Californians have survived the sinking of the cruise ship Costa Concordia off the coast of Italy, including a Los Angeles teacher, a Downey businesswoman and family members from L.A. County. Including the Southern California survivors, 126 Americans were aboard the doomed ocean liner as it sank into the sea like the Titanic with 4,235 passengers on board. One of the world’s largest passenger ships, the Costa Concordia was four miles off-course when it tragically hit the rocks and sank. “Have you seen ‘Titanic?’ That’s exactly what it was,” declared Valerie Ananias , 31, a schoolteacher from Los Angeles, California who survived the disaster-at-sea with her sister and parents. The entire California family, including senior citizens, now have torn-up knees and body bruises from their desperate crawl along vertical hallways and stairwells in the darkness while fighting with their last ounce of strength to survive. “We were crawling up a hallway, in the dark, with only the light from the life vest strobe flashing.
