No need to trek downtown or to Marina del Rey for a Kurobuta Pork Belly Banh Mi or Modern Tuna Melt because later this month Mendocino Farms will debut its fourth farmers market-driven sandwich shop at the intersection of Santa Monica and La Brea. Check out these early shots of ply, there’s clearly still a ways to go, but the bones are in place for another clean and comfortable cafe which is beginning to resemble this handsome little number out west. While MdR’s floating tin ceiling makes a repeat appearance at Mendo WeHo, John Kim of Poon Design went out on a limb to up the earthy factor by adding a large ficus tree growing from the center of a communal table in the middle of the restaurant. Just like prior locations, eco-friendly elements are spread throughout the space from reclaimed railroad ties as soffits to ubiquitous reclaimed barn wood in the large outdoor patio.
