Week in Review: Hubbard Verdict, Library Construction and Roxbury Park Community Center

The City Council held a public meeting last week about the future of the Roxbury Park Community Center. Read about that and more in the top stories from Jan. 22-28. 1. A jury found former Beverly Hills Unified School District Superintendent Jeffrey Hubbard guilty of two felony misappropriation of public funds charges , but acquitted him on a third charge. He has been fired from his position as the superintendent of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. 2. Mayor Barry Brucker reported to the council on his recent trip to the United States Conference of Mayors gathering in Washington, D.C. 3. Construction has started at the Beverly Hills Public Library to upgrade the “Teen Zone” and children’s area . 4. The West Hollywood-Beverly Hills Democratic Club has endorsed political veteran Torie Osborn for the newly created 50th Assembly District, which includes Beverly Hills for the November 2012 election. 5. The council held a public meeting where residents voiced their concerns about plans to modernize the Roxbury Park Community Center . Also, the Beverly Hills High School girls soccer team beat rival Culver City at home to stay atop the Ocean League standings.
