A jury found former Beverly Hills Unified School District Superintendent Jeffrey Hubbard guilty of two felony misappropriation of public funds charges , but acquitted him on a third charge. He has been fired from his position as the superintendent of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. 2. Mayor Barry Brucker reported to the council on his recent trip to the United States Conference of Mayors gathering in Washington, D.C. 3. Construction has started at the Beverly Hills Public Library to upgrade the “Teen Zone” and children’s area . 4. The West Hollywood-Beverly Hills Democratic Club has endorsed political veteran Torie Osborn for the newly created 50th Assembly District, which includes Beverly Hills for the November 2012 election. 5. A Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman reported that rapper Heavy D, who collapsed at his Beverly Hills apartment building in November, died of a blood clot in his lung . 3. Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley warned consumers about a “robo-call” scam to get confidential banking information from unsuspecting victims. 4. A college football player performed the Heimlich maneuver on a diner during the Beef Bowl dinner in Beverly Hills. 5. Starting Jan. 1, a new state law will require children under age 8 to be buckled into a car or booster seat that is secured in a vehicle’s back seat. Week in Review: School Board Race, Black & White Ball and Vehicle Charging Stations
The Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education elections took place last week. Read about that and more in the top Beverly Hills news from Nov. 6-12. 1. The final results have yet to be released in the school board race, though incumbent Brian Goldberg has a commanding lead . 2. Supporters of Board of Education write-in candidate Noah Margo are confident that he will win one of three available Board of Education seats. 3. The 23rd annual Black & White Ball was held at the Beverly Hilton. The fundraising event supports members of the Beverly Hills Police Officers Association. 4. The city has opened a new parking facility on North Crescent Drive that features electric vehicle charging stations on all three levels. 5. Beverly Hills Porsche announced that it is moving its showroom to Westwood . Also, Beverly Hills High’s football team lost its final game of the season and will not advance to the playoffs.
