Eric Hopkins paced up and down a hallway in the Dirksen Senate Office Building two weeks ago in front of 25 people who were standing in line for a hearing of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Few of them knew what the public hearing was about. That’s because they were hired by LineStanding.com, which paid them to reserve spots for lawyers, lobbyists, union members and anyone else willing to spend $32 an hour to secure a place in line. Fair Debt Buyers Practices Act

The Fair Debt Buyers Practices Act (SB 890) has been approved by the California Senate as consumer groups applaud a move toward protection from abusive debt collection practices. Once the Senate bill becomes law, tougher regulations would affect companies that purchase consumer debt and then take over collections.

California Senators Denied Food!

California state senators have been cut off from food by the Senate Rules Committee , which has decided that hungry senators during long sessions should get NO MORE FOOD. California’s economy is experiencing cutbacks in services and the axe has now come to the state’s lawmakers and their stomachs.
