I’m in week 2 of a real life police academy for a village I’ll keep nameless in the state of NY. Here is a little practice of a criminal complaint in this scenario. The Complainant, being duly sworn by the San Andreas Police Department, makes complaint and states that there is probable cause to believe that the Defendant committed the following offense(s): Count I: Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle (NY Penal Law §270.25) Count II: Driving while Intoxicated ( NY Penal Law §60.21) Count III: Reckless Driving (NY VTL 1212) Count IV: Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent (NY VTL1180a) At 1650 on 31 October 2012, I was conducting a lawful DUI Checkpoint in Flint County, mile marker 72. While talking with the first driver of the night, a truck headed northbound towards Whetstone sped past the roadblock which caused me to give chase. After briefly losing sight of Mr. Hancock, I observed his vehicle which had turned around and was now headed southbound. After performing a traffic stop, he pulled his vehicle over and handed me a valid San Andreas Drivers License identifying him as John P. Hancock. After a brief conversation, Mr. Hancock subsequently fled the scene which was pursued for approximately 70 miles in hazardous road conditions until myself and another state police unit detained and arrested the suspect at 0055 on 1 November 2012. -Ofc.
