Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing , that new collaborative effort taking over Capri on Abbot Kinney in Venice, opens December 1 after its soft run earlier this month. Helmed by previous restaurant management plus chefs Kris Tominaga (Joe’s Restaurant), and Brian Dunsmoor (Axe), the focus has switched from uninspired Italianish fare to locally sourced rustic country-style plates and a concise list of California-centric beer and wine. This right here is the opening menu, quite obviously not a far departure from nearby neighbors Gjelina and The Tasting Kitchen, but slightly more reasonable in price. 1) Mid-City: Wild Oats Cafe , the neighborhood coffee and lunch stop located on Melrose near Larchmont has closed and the windows are now papered over. After 17 years, owners have decided to move to a tbd new location downtown, slated to open early next year. [EaterWire] 2) Venice: And, Market Gourmet , the eclectic food shop and more on Abbot Kinney has also ceased operations as of last night. Management says a slow economy is to blame.
