Wine and Beer at Starbucks?
With five Starbucks Coffee locations in Beverly Hills, it’s safe to say that many residents visit the popular chain. But soon, your local Starbucks may offer more than coffee, lattes, sweets and sandwiches. The company began serving wine, beer and premium foods during the evening at some of its Pacific Northwest stores starting in October 2010. Now a handful of SoCal Starbucks will begin offering wine, beer, savory snacks, small plates and hot flatbreads by the end of the year, the coffee giant announced last week . The next locations with the expanded menu have yet to be announced. “As our customers transition from work to home, many are looking for a warm and inviting place to unwind and connect with the people they care about,” Starbucks Senior Vice President for U.S. Operations Clarice Turner said. “At select stores where it is relevant for the neighborhood, we are focused on creating an atmosphere where our customers can relax with a friend, a small bite to eat and a cup of coffee or glass of wine.” In addition to the wine, beer and stepped-up food offerings, some stores plan to also have “flexible seating” to accommodate individuals and small groups, as well as larger parties. Beverly Hills Starbucks are located at 428 N. Beverly Drive , 9844 Wilshire Blvd. , 257 S. La Cienega Blvd. , 9045 W. Olympic Blvd. and 202 S. Beverly Drive . Week in Reviews : Maximiliano’s Italian-American Cuisine Earns 1.5 Stars
Today Sher dishes out a fairly straightforward one and a half star review of Andre Guerrero’s Maximiliano , backhanded compliments and all. She finds the restaurant charming and dependable, but nothing to write home about: …his tribute to “kinda old school” Italian-American cooking seems perfectly pitched for the area. Set in a loft-like space on the corner of York Boulevard and Aldama Street, the newcomer brings some big-city zing to Highland Park without being over-the-top trendy… Maximiliano has a warm, friendly vibe and cheerful decor, not to mention an accessible menu (with prices to match) and a good little wine and beer list. The restaurant is just what it’s supposed to be: a good place to eat …And though his Italian food is updated with svelte contemporary touches, Maximiliano isn’t really the kind of place you’d drive across town to visit . SIV recommends ordering one of the restaurant’s thin crust pizzas, “not the most flavorful in town but good,” or one of the “hearty and familiar” pasta dishes. Despite the mixed review, she concludes that Maximiliano’s is “[s]oon to become a fixture on York Boulevard.” [ LAT ] The Goldster checks in to the Westfield Culver City Food Court to taste test Five Guys, Kyochon, 101 Noodle Express, Panda Express, Viet Gourmet Express, Sarku Japan . The Shutter : Gonpachi Finally Says Sayonara to La Cienega Tomorrow
Kozo Hasegawa , creator of Global Dining which operates Gonpachi both in Beverly Hills and Torrance (in addition to Monsoon, La Boheme, and countless eateries in Japan), has finally decided to end the life of his almost five-year-old La Cienega Japanese eatery effective tomorrow . Can’t say this is an entire shocker , although Gonpachi did put forth a valiant effort by introducing a new menu and bring in Marcel Vigneron to cook . Buttt what’s on tap for the future? We’re told the Torrance branch of Gonpachi is going strong, so nothing to report on over there. As for the Beverly Hills space, Kozo is hanging on to the restaurant with potential plans to roll out a Test Kitchen-esque pop-up dining concept.
