Ilya Zhitomirskiy , founder of the Facebook rival Diaspora , was found dead in San Francisco, California at age 22. Diaspora, the privacy-aware, user-controlled social network, was founded in response to criticism of Facebook’s handling of its users’ privacy. The cause of Ilya Zhitomirskiy’s death is yet to be determined by the San Francisco coroner’s office, which said it will take weeks. Yahoo! already loves 2012 as the Silicon Valley company prepares for changes so revolutionary and exciting that many are suddenly taking another liking to Yahoo! shares. For those who think that Yahoo! is washed-up and on its way out, that the company has turned desperate, or that Jerry Yang is giving his ‘baby’ away for adoption, think again. Think harder.

Dell invaded Silicon Valley today, opening the Texas company’s new California R&D center campus in Santa Clara. Governor Jerry Brown welcomed Michael Dell and company with open arms, but Governor Rick Perry was nowhere to be found. The Dell Silicon Valley Research and Development Center has joined California’s tech community as a job creator adding 742 Californians to Dell’s payroll. Governor Brown warmly greeted Michael Dell on behalf of all Californians: “California is the world capital of innovation and technology, so it’s only natural that Dell has chosen Santa Clara as the home for its newest research and development facility.
