CopWatching #1 DUI Checkpoint Buena Park (part 2)
I was out on a little errand with my girlfriend to the baby store, just outside the shopping center was a DUI checkpoint with 50+ Police units including officers in training, Sheriff’s Department, Deputies, etc. The checkpoint started before 6:00pm (way before anyone starts drinking, during peak traffic hours in Orange County). I was going to record the small closed off area where the police where illegally searching and questioning people, conveniently for the police, the owners of the private property allowed them to stage this Nazi Stop, making it against the law for civilians to audio or video record the operation. This didnt stop me from pulling out my camera and filming the outside operation and asking a few questions.
Human Head Found in Bag at Bronson Canyon Park
Los Angeles police were called to Bronson Canyon Park Tuesday afternoon after dog walkers found a human head inside a bag, authorities reported. Two dog walkers discovered the severed head of an alleged homicide victim at about 2:30 p.m. near the 3200 block of Canyon Drive, according to an advisory from the Los Angeles Police Department . The hikers had about nine dogs on the trail when two of the dogs started playing with an object in a bag. When the hikers realized it was a human head, they immediately notified park rangers. Investigators were at the scene Tuesday evening seeking clues and possibly more body parts, but suspended their search when it grew dark. The crime scene will be guarded by LAPD officers. The head appeared to belong to a male and was likely not in the area for long. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office will analyze the remains. Bronson Canyon Park is a popular recreational area inside Griffith Park. Trails in the park lead to a view of the Hollywood sign and also an area known as the “Batcave,” which was used in the 1960s television show Batman . Suspected Car Thief Calls 911 During Police Chase
LOS ANGELES — A wounded car-theft suspect fleeing police at speeds up to 100 mph surrendered Monday after calling authorities – to help him. The chase through Los Angeles and its northern suburbs ended when the Tucson, Ariz., man, wounded by police gunfire, used a cell phone to dial 911 then pulled over and was taken into custody, said Officer Rick Quintero, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. The man and a second suspect, a woman, also of Tucson, were initially stopped by two park rangers at Hungry Valley state park, north of Los Angeles, on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle. Authorities handcuffed the woman and put her in a ranger’s SUV, but the man was able to break away, jumped in the state vehicle and the couple sped away with a park ranger clinging to the side of the vehicle, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Mark Pope said. After a short distance, the park ranger fell off the SUV and onto the ground, Pope said. The man made a U-turn and drove toward the park ranger who opened fire at the driver, Pope said. The man still managed to drive away and the pursuit began. Video broadcast by TV stations showed the white SUV barreling through streets and sideswiping other vehicles before coming to a halt on a freeway in Los Angeles. CHP officers approached the SUV, pulled out the handcuffed woman, 21, and driver, 25, and took them into custody. The woman was taken to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, then to a sheriff’s station for booking. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound to his upper torso. His condition was not known, the sheriff’s department said. The names of the man and woman were not immediately released. See original here: Suspected Car Thief Calls 911 During Police Chase
REVEALED: Occupy LA’s Cost To The City So Far
Story comes courtesy of The City Maven . By Alice M. Walton The Occupy LA encampment on the lawn of City Hall, which has been in place since Oct. 1, has racked up a $120,000 tab so far, according the Mayor’s Office. That figure includes fees associated with Recreation and Parks, Transportation, Sanitation, General Services and the City Attorney’s Office. It does not include any one-time costs to repair the lawn and irrigation system, nor does it include the cost of materials and labor to construct the wood structure around the foundation and firefighters’ memorial on the South lawn. A letter sent to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa from the head of Recreation and Parks shows the extent of some City Hall insiders’ frustration with Occupy LA. “Some individuals have compromised the park’s irrigation system by disabling sprinkler heads, and vandalizing the various irrigation valves located throughout the park,” General Manger Jon Kirk Mukri wrote in his letter. “Additionally, the persons now living on the grounds of the park have: 1) created several unsafe conditions; 2) monopolized the park grounds, thus limiting access for other park users; 3) greatly impacted (Recreation and Park’s) ability to properly maintain and irrigate the park; and, 4) caused damage to the park grounds including landscaped areas, hardscape areas, and trees.” Park repairs will take several weeks — once Occupy LA leaves the lawn and once city funding is identified, according to Mukri. Citing staff’s pride in the city’s parks, Recreation and Parks has distributed a flyer to Occupy LA folks on how to protect the park’s trees. School Board Election Is Today
Tuesday, Nov. 8 marks the day that residents can vote to fill three seats on the Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education. The four candidates running in the school board race are incumbent Brian Goldberg , El Rodeo parent Frances Bilak , educator Lewis Hall and Beverly Vista parent Noah Margo . Margo is the only contender who is running as a write-in candidate, which means his campaign statement will not appear on the ballot. To learn more about voting for a write-in candidate, click here . The name of Traffic and Parking Commissioner Andy Licht, who has dropped out of the race, will still appear on the ballot per California law. Licht has said he intends to resign if voted to the board. Upon his resignation if elected, the board majority would appoint a successor for a two-year term until the next school board election. Board members who are directly elected serve for four years. Because write-in votes must be counted by hand, final election results will not be immediately available. If you are unsure where to vote, visit the Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder’s polling place locator by clicking here and entering your home address (Note: do not include street type, such as north, south, boulevard or drive).
