Kirsten Dunst Stalker: Judge Orders Man To Stay Away

December 10, 2011

LOS ANGELES — A judge on Friday granted Kirsten Dunst a temporary restraining order against a French man who has repeatedly written to the actress and traveled to Los Angeles at least five times to try to meet her. Superior Court Judge Carol Boas Goodson ordered Jean Christophe Prudhon of Dijon, France, to stay 100 yards away from the “Spider-Man” star and to stop trying to contact her. In letters accompanying Dunst’s petition, Prudhon wrote that he sold his home in France so he could continue to travel to meet Dunst, who has not responded to any of his more than 50 letters. He wrote that he is in love with the actress and that he has repeatedly waited outside Dunst’s home to try to meet her and has been mistaken for a paparazzo. “I am frightened for my safety, as well as the safety of my family and friends who visit my home,” Dunst wrote in a court filing. “I am worried that Mr. Prudhon will escalate his conduct further, putting myself and my family in danger.” Dunst’s mother, Inez Dunst, wrote in a sworn declaration that she was alarmed by Prudhon’s appearance when he came to her door last week trying to meet the actress. Inez Dunst said she knew who he was because he has repeatedly sent her daughter letters over the years. It could not be immediately determined if Prudhon, 51, was represented by a lawyer, and attempts to locate him for comment were unsuccessful. The actress, who recently appeared in the film “Melancholia,” wrote in a court filing that her security personnel told Prudhon to stay away, but he has refused. Goodson will consider whether to grant a three-year restraining order at a Dec. 21 hearing. ___ View post: Kirsten Dunst Stalker: Judge Orders Man To Stay Away

Jury In Conrad Murray Trial Ends First Day Of Deliberations Without Reaching Verdict

November 5, 2011

LOS ANGELES — Jurors considering the case against Michael Jackson’s doctor ended their first day of deliberations Friday without reaching a verdict or asking any questions indicating how far along they have gotten in their discussions. The seven-man, five-woman panel was given highlighters and blank forms to request evidence after starting deliberations around 8:30 a.m. They recessed around 4 p.m. and were set to resume discussions Monday. The jury must reach a unanimous verdict to either convict or acquit Dr. Conrad Murray of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s June 2009 death. Jackson died from a fatal dose of the anesthetic propofol; Murray has acknowledged giving Jackson propofol to help him sleep. The jury is not sequestered and will deliberate during the court’s regular hours. A verdict will be read the same day it is reached. During closing arguments of the six-week trial, attorneys for the Houston-based cardiologist attacked prosecutors and their witnesses, saying they had over time developed stories and theories that placed the blame for Jackson’s death squarely on Murray. Prosecutors countered that Murray was an opportunistic and inept doctor who left Jackson’s three children without a father. They said that Murray giving Jackson propofol as a sleep aid violated standards of care and amounted to a secret experiment in which the doctor kept no records. Media were stationed Friday outside the courthouse and in the courtroom where the jury’s decision will eventually be read. Attorneys handling the case will receive a two-hour notice when a verdict is reached. Murray waived the need for his presence if the panel asks any questions, but he must be present when a verdict is announced. Jurors heard from 49 witnesses and have more than 300 pieces of evidence to consider. They were given lengthy instructions by the judge about how to deliberate. If Murray is convicted, he faces a sentence ranging from probation to four years behind bars, and he would lose his medical license. The sentence will be decided by Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor after receiving input from attorneys for both sides and probation officials, if necessary. A recent change in California law means that Murray, 58, might serve any possible incarceration in a county jail rather than a state prison. A prison term could be shortened by overcrowding. If acquitted, Murray could still be pursued by medical licensing authorities in the states of California, Nevada and Texas. ___ AP Special Correspondent Linda Deutsch contributed to this report. ___ McCartney can be reached at http://twitter.com/mccartneyAP See the original post: Jury In Conrad Murray Trial Ends First Day Of Deliberations Without Reaching Verdict

A Lawsuit Of Biblical Proportions Against Getty Museum

November 4, 2011

LOS ANGELES — The J. Paul Getty Museum on Thursday lost its bid for dismissal of the Armenian church lawsuit demanding the return of pages ripped from a sacred handwritten Armenian Bible dating back to 1256. Superior Court Judge Abraham Khan denied Getty’s motion to dismiss the claim and ordered four months of mediation in an attempt to resolve the dispute between the museum and the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America, which filed suit in June 2010 on behalf its mother church, the Lebanon-based Holy See of Cilicia. The suit accuses Getty of harboring stolen illuminated medieval manuscripts, saying they are spiritually and historically sacred church masterpieces. The lawsuit claims the church had the Bible authenticated in 1947 or 1948 and it was returned with more than a half-dozen pages missing. The pages of painted parchment once formed the front pages of a larger work called the Zeyt’un Gospels. The church wants to send them to an Armenian museum in Yerevan so they can be reunited with the rest of the Bible. Getty officials say the more than half-dozen pages were legally acquired in 1994 for $950,000 from an anonymous private collector. The Los Angeles Times ( ) said museum attorneys argued during Thursday’s brief hearing that the lawsuit filing deadline expired decades ago. http://lat.ms/vQW5zV But the judge said he was unclear on the statute of limitations issue. Khan ordered mediation and another hearing on March 2 if the case isn’t settled. Under California law, lawsuits to recover allegedly stolen artworks from a museum or art dealer must be filed no later than six years after the owner learns of their whereabouts. “We are confident that we hold legal title,” the Getty Museum said in a statement after the ruling. Church attorney Lee Boyd said afterward that the museum failed to investigate the ownership history of the pages when it bought them from Armenian American heirs of a man the church says stole the pages in 1916. The Zeyt’un Gospels had briefly fallen into his hands when Turks expelled the Armenian community from Cilicia, then a region of the Ottoman Empire and now part of Turkey, during and after the World War I-era that Armenians term a genocide. Lindsay’s Mugshots Through The Years

Some people have yearbooks to look back through, others have Facebook albums. But Lindsay Lohan? She’s racking up quite a collection of mugshots. Lohan smiled pretty for Los Angeles police officers Wednesday when she took her fifth — yes, fifth — mugshot after her probation was revoked by Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner Why? Because, according to Sautner, she didn’t the follow the court’s orders to serve community service at a women’s shelter. Her bail was set at a whopping $100,000, which she paid, but not before being led from the courtroom in handcuffs. A new hearing to determine whether or not she should be sent back to jail is set for November 2. Here’s Lohan’s latest mugshot, and take a trip down memory lane below to see the rest.
