Smokers, take heed: the UC system is banning smoking and chewing tobacco on all ten of its campuses altogether starting in 2014. Surveillance video captured the violent robbery of a teenage girl in the lobby of her own apartment building. Brutal Beating and Robbery of Teenage Girl Captured on Surveillance Camera Los Angeles: An 18-year-old woman was beaten then robbed after walking into the lobby of her apartment building on Tuesday night. Detectives investigating the attack are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the aggressive and dangerous suspect. On January 8, 2012, around 10:10 pm, a young woman returning to her apartment in the area of Westmoreland and 11th Street was attacked in the lobby of her apartment building. The suspect approached the victim from behind, put his arm around her neck and tried to grab her cell phone. When the victim resisted, the suspect slammed her to the ground and punched her several times in the face and the stomach. The suspect attempted to take her purse, but instead took her cell phone. As the suspect began walking toward the front door, the victim ran after him and tried to take her phone back. The suspect turned around, punched the victim several more times in her face then walked out the lobby door. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, between 25-35-years-old, he stands about 5-5″ tall and weighs approximately 180-200 pounds. During the incident, he was seen wearing jean pants, a white t-shirt with black printing on the front and back of the shirt and black shoes. SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Investigators say three young robbers are in jail after returning to a Southern California crime scene to retrieve liquor store surveillance camera video. Los Angeles sheriff’s Lt. Tom Bryski says the trio stole beer from Dooley’s Liquor Store in the Newhall area of Santa Clarita on Sunday night and fled. They returned to the store about 85 minutes later to get the surveillance video. The lieutenant tells City News Service that there was a scuffle and one of the robbers pulled a knife and slashed the store clerk’s arm. Deputies arrested 19-year-old Oscar Jimenez, 18-year-old Eduardo Salgado and a 17-year-old youth. They have been booked for investigation of theft, intimidating a witness and assault with a deadly weapon. Robberies at Westside Stores and Markets Suspects Usually Wearing “Security” Shirts Seen on Surveillance Video Los Angeles: LAPD Pacific Area detectives are looking for at least three suspects who have recently robbed stores and markets located within close proximity to each other in the West Los Angeles area. Their trademark seems to be wearing black shirts with the word “security” written across the back. So far, detectives are aware of three robberies the suspects have committed. The first was last weekend on August 6 at about 8:20 pm at Bob’s Market, 1000 National Blvd. A surveillance video showed a suspect entering the store wearing a black ski mask and a black shirt with “security” written on the back in white letters. He was also wearing gloves and black pants and carrying a revolver handgun. While a cashier was helping another customer, he pointed his gun at the cashier, demanded money and then left the store, heading south on Hughes Avenue. A witness saw the suspect get into a parked car described as a black, four-door Honda driven by a second male suspect. The car was last seen heading south on Hughes Avenue. No description is available of the driver, but the first suspect is described as an 18- to 25-year-old Black male who stands about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs around 165 pounds.
