The Los Angeles Police Department is joining law agencies across the state in an 18-day crackdown that will include about 300 sobriety and license checkpoints, according to LAPD Media Relations www.scpr.org
pro-immigrant groups like SCIC have successfully pressured the LAPD to change its policy!! Confiscating undocumented workers’ cars at checkpoints supposedly set up as sobriety checkpoints has brought in some $40 million a year to local municipalities. Due to pressure from many community groups, LAPD relaxes its policy as of today so that if the driver of a vehicle doesn’t have a driver’s license, then if a friend who has a driver’s license can come within “a reasonable period of time,” the car will not be confiscated. Annabelle Sedano reports. Here’s the Southern California Immigration Coalition’s website: immigrationcoalition.org
