Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media Getting Sued For A LOT

February 9, 2012

Ryan Kavanaugh, the media mogul behind Relativity Media, is facing yet another challenge. Last year, residents in West Hollywood West, an area made up of almost 1,000 single-family homes north of Beverly Boulevard, complained of the pilot’s noisy comings and goings atop the Sofitel. This year, it’s a pretty hefty lawsuit from one of Relativity’s original investors, Aramid Entertainment Fund. More: Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media Getting Sued For A LOT

Rescue Dog of the Week: Alfie the American Bulldog Mix

February 3, 2012

Alfie is a young, male American bulldog mix and a shelter favorite. He has been neutered and is up to date with his routine shots. Not much is known of his past since he was found as a stray, but there is no denying Alfie is a darling dog that would make a great companion. This sweet pooch is looking for a foster home, or even better, a forever home. Ace of  Hearts is a 501c-3 dog rescue foundation dedicated to rescuing dogs—the day they are to be euthanized—from various Los Angeles shelters and placing them in loving homes. It does not take dogs in. It rescues only from shelters. Its adoption days are normally held every Saturday at  the West Hollywood  Petco at 508 N. Doheny Drive from 1-4 p.m. Click  here  for information on how to adopt a rescue dog from Ace of Hearts. Be sure to follow  Beverly Hills  Patch on  Twitter  and “Like” us on  Facebook . AD 50 Candidate Osborn Lures Donors With Weho Mayor’s Outburst Video

January 31, 2012

Torie Osborn doesn’t seem too upset about the  pretty nasty outburst  West Hollywood Mayor John Duran made at last Wednesday’s West Hollywood-Beverly Hills Democratic Club endorsement meeting in Weho. In fact, Osborn is now asking viewers of the  video  showing Duran’s interruption to pay up. A recent campaign email titled “VIRAL VIDEO: WeHo Mayor Threatens Me” includes the tagline, “Click here to see the video—and help us turn this shocking incident into a campaign opportunity,” linking directly to Osborn’s ActBlue fundraising page . Next to the embedded YouTube clip, a message on the page reads: “Watch the video on the right, and then donate $3 below to help us fight these attacks and advance our grassroots momentum!” By the time the 50th Assembly District candidate won the endorsement—at the end of the nearly three-hour meeting last week—Duran could no longer contain his frustration. Storming out, he said, “West Hollywood will not forget this,” plus a few choice words. Osborn told Patch after the meeting: “We’re in it to win it. I have a grass-roots army that’s working with me. … People joining clubs in order to vote for who they vote for is part of the grass roots. It just is part of the tactics. People do it all the time. I’m proud of my troops.” A representative from Osborn’s campaign did not immediately respond for an updated comment. Beverly Hills is joining the  newly created 50th Assembly District  in the November 2012 election due to redistricting. Until then the city is represented by Mike Feuer as part of the 42nd Assembly District. Be sure to follow  Beverly Hills  Patch on  Twitter  and “Like” us on  Facebook . Welcome Nick Frazee, New Patch Advertising Manager

January 30, 2012

Nicholas Frazee is Patch’s new advertising manager for Beverly Hills, Hollywood, West Hollywood and Westwood-Century City. Frazee recently moved to the Los Angeles area after working as an advertising manager for Patch in Connecticut. He joined Patch in January after working in local television. Frazee has also held sales positions with various companies, ranging from website startups to health care businesses. In his free time, Frazee enjoys hockey, skiing and surfing. You can see him around Beverly Hills, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Westwood and Century City, introducing Patch to businesses and consumers alike. Feel free to say hi, and ask him about your Patch! Here’s a little bit about Frazee: Patch:  As an advertising manager, what’s the best part of your job? Nicholas Frazee:  Meeting local residents and business owners, and impressing them with Patch. It’s always amazing either to hear the “I love Patch!” response, or see that great “Ah-hah!” look of discovery as I find new users. The best is when I get to say, “Hey, how about your family, where do they live? Let’s find their Patch and see what’s going on!” That might be my favorite.  Patch:  What’s the best way for people to contact you about advertising on Patch? Frazee :  In person is always best. As an ambassador for Patch, I’m always at chamber events and local happenings. However, Patch has kept its people well stocked with technology. I always have my iPhone with me: 310-721-5825; and email is great too: Nick.Frazee@Patch.com.  Patch:  What do you find special about Patch? Frazee :  Patch is more than anything a resource; a tremendous asset for a community to learn more about their news, events and businesses, and to contribute back. It’s a two-way conversation every day and I have been so excited watching it become a part of the fabric of people’s lives. Did you check your Patch today? Patch:  What are your personal interests? What are you looking forward to most in your new surroundings? Frazee :  My nickname at Patch is “Iceman” since I play hockey and ski. I can’t wait to take some long weekends to Utah! More than anything, I’m pschyed for the surf. This is the closest I’ve lived to the beach, and I’ve already hit up Venice Beach and Malibu. Pinkberry Co-Founder Arrested for Alleged Assault on Homeless Man

January 18, 2012

A founder of the Pinkberry frozen yogurt chain was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport Monday for allegedly attacking a homeless man along the Hollywood Freeway in June.  Young Lee, 47, was apprehended at about 2 p.m. Monday after arriving from Korea. He was arrested on a felony warrant for aggravated assault “related to an evening attack on a homeless beggar…on June 15, 2011,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.  Lee and a companion got out of the car Lee was driving on Vermont Avenue near the Hollywood Freeway offramp to confront the homeless man because Lee thought the man had disrespected him by exposing a sexually explicit tattoo, according to the District Attorney’s Office.  Lee allegedly used a tire iron to beat the homeless man, who suffered a broken left forearm and several cuts to his head, according to the District Attorney’s Office.  Witnesses were able to describe the Range Rover the men were in and its license plate, which led to Lee, according to LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon. Police did not identify Lee’s alleged accomplice. “Witnesses picked out Lee from a photo display and a judge issued a warrant for his arrest,” Vernon said. “When federal databases alerted detectives that Lee was inbound on a flight from his native Korea on Jan. 16, detectives from [the LAPD’s fugitive] task force and the FBI met Lee at the airport and arrested him.”  Lee was released Tuesday on $60,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 6 in Los Angeles Superior Court on one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon.  Convicted in 2001 for felony possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor for carrying a loaded firearm, Lee faces up to seven years in state prison if convicted on the aggravated assualt charge, according to the District Attorney’s Office.  A boxer-turned-architect, Lee co-founded Pinkberry with Shelly Hwang. Its first store opened in West Hollywood in 2005 and the low-calorie yogurt chain quickly grew. There are two locations in Beverly Hills: 9409 S. Santa Monica Blvd. and 240 S. Beverly Drive .    This article was compiled with information from City News Service. Be sure to follow  Beverly Hills  Patch on  Twitter  and “Like” us on  Facebook .
